At Blaxland High School, we offer a variety of programs in the classroom and across the school to help students build new skills, make friends and explore new interests.

Aboriginal Cultural Leadership
The Aboriginal Cultural Leadership program at Blaxland High School offers students who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander the opportunity to engage in enrichment activities focused on culture, language, and leadership. This program aims to strengthen students' connection to their cultural heritage while developing their leadership skills. Through workshops, cultural events, and language learning opportunities, students are empowered to take on leadership roles within the school and their communities. The program fosters a sense of pride in cultural identity and equips students with the skills to be future leaders, both within the school and beyond.
Accelerated Mathematics
The Accelerated Mathematics program at Blaxland High School offers selected Year 9 students the opportunity to complete all Stage 5 Mathematics content in one year, allowing them to advance to Stage 6 Mathematics in Year 10. This program is designed for students who exhibit exceptional mathematical ability and a strong commitment to their studies. Through a rigorous curriculum, students develop a deep understanding of mathematical concepts and problem-solving techniques, preparing them for higher-level mathematics courses in their senior years. This accelerated pathway enables students to undertake HSC-level Mathematics earlier, providing them with a competitive edge in both academic and career pursuits
Accelerated Science
This program allows selected Year 9 students to accelerate their learning by completing all Stage 5 Science content in one year. They then proceed to study the Preliminary Chemistry or Investigating Science course in Year 10. The program is rigorous, requiring strong academic performance and commitment. It provides a unique opportunity for students to deepen their understanding of science at an advanced level.
Dance Groups

Dance groups at Blaxland High School offer students the opportunity to develop their skills in various dance styles. These groups participate in performances, competitions, and eisteddfods, promoting physical fitness, creativity, and teamwork. Participation in these groups helps students build confidence and showcase their talents.

Debating
The debating program engages students in structured arguments and public speaking. Participants develop critical thinking, research, and communication skills. Debating provides an excellent platform for students to enhance their intellectual abilities and confidence in public speaking, which are valuable skills both in and out of the classroom.
Enrichment
Students may apply to be part of the in Years 7 and 8 Enrichment stream. These classes are designed for students who demonstrate an independent learning mindset and who would benefit from an enhanced and challenging curriculum.
External Exams
Students have the opportunity to participate in a variety of external exams and competitions, including ICAS exams in subjects like Digital Technologies, English, Mathematics, Science, Spelling, and Writing, as well as university competitions like the UNSW Mathematics competition. These exams provide students with the chance to benchmark their skills against peers nationally and internationally, enhancing their academic experience.
Model United Nations (MUN)
Model United Nations simulates the UN General Assembly, where students debate and negotiate on global issues. This program helps students develop diplomacy, public speaking, and problem-solving skills, as well as a deep understanding of international relations. It is particularly valuable for students interested in politics, law, or global issues.
Peer Mediators
Peer mediators are trained to help students resolved interpersonal conflict before it escalates.
Peer Support Leaders
Peer Support Leaders are trained to support Year 6 students through their transition to Year 7.
School Representative Council (SRC)
The School Representative Council (SRC) provides students with a voice in school decision-making and event planning. It fosters leadership skills, responsibility, and community involvement. Participation in the SRC helps students develop a strong sense of civic duty and teamwork, preparing them for future leadership roles.
Talented Athletes Program (TAP)
The Talented Athletes Program (TAP) provides students with exceptional sporting abilities an opportunity to develop their skills while maintaining academic progress. The program offers elite coaching in sports such as basketball, soccer, touch football/rugby league, netball, and dance (for Years 7 and 8). TAP promotes physical performance, well-being, and academic success, encouraging students to serve as role models in sports.
Vocal Groups
Vocal groups, including Junior Vocal Ensemble (JVE) and Senior Vocal Ensemble (SVE), offer students a platform to develop their singing talents. These groups perform in various settings, including local events, musicals, and eisteddfods. Participation fosters musical skills, teamwork, and public performance experience, contributing to the school’s vibrant cultural life.
Write a Book in a Day
This initiative challenges students to collaboratively write and illustrate a book in a single day. It encourages creativity, teamwork, and time management. The project is part of the Imaginative Writers course, offering a unique opportunity for students to explore their creative writing and storytelling abilities in an intensive, fun, and supportive environment.
